Baptism

Baptism is a beautiful beginning to a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus Christ.  Together with the parents and sponsors, our entire Christian Community is happy to be here to offer love and support to help your child grow in the faith. The following information is intended to help you and your family best prepare for the sacrament of baptism and the faith commitment you are about to enter with your child.  May God bless you and your family. If you need assistance or have questions, please contact Rachael Jensen at rachael@sjecc.com.

Confirmation

This Faith Formation Program generally runs from late August through May. To receive the sacrament of Confirmation, children must have a minimum of two consecutive years of religious instruction, have received their First Reconciliation and First Communion, be at least 15 years old, and be in the tenth grade

Confirmation Preparation

Preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation is an exciting time for high school youth. Confirmation encompasses two years of preparation, typically in ninth and tenth grade. However, each program year often includes students in eleventh and twelfth grade who have not yet received this sacrament. We view the program as a journey, rather than a race. In this way young adults are afforded the opportunity to explore their faith at a reasonable pace given the myriad of other obligations that occupy time in their lives. Students study the faith, choose sponsors to help them along their journey, and get to learn more about their chosen Saint who will provide inspiration to each candidate through extraordinary stories of living the faith. Our confirmation program is open to ALL high school age youth. We meet on Sunday afternoons from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. approximately twice a month. As part of our class sessions, we attend mass together, and families are welcome to join us for mass. Video-based programs provide the framework for what will be small-sized supportive formation groups.

Anointing of the Sick

Contact the parish office 239-566-8740 if you require a priest for this sacrament.  If it is after our normal business hours, please press 1 on the phone and you will be transferred to the priest on call.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

The Anointing of the Sick “is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived.”129

1515 If a sick person who received this anointing recovers his health, he can in the case of another grave illness receive this sacrament again. If during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious, the sacrament may be repeated. It is fitting to receive the Anointing of the Sick just prior to a serious operation. the same holds for the elderly whose frailty becomes more pronounced.

The Funeral Mass is one of the most important services of the Church. We would like to offer our deepest condolences and support you during this difficult time. We will work with you on selecting the music and readings for the Funeral Mass and also offer space for a bereavement luncheon, if requested. Please contact Rachael Jensen for assistance with planning a Funeral at rachael@sjecc.com or 239-566-8740.
